International Craniofacial Academy (ICA) commences comprehensive dental implant training at its headquarters in Gwarinpa, Abuja, Nigeria. The programme took place from 21st to 24th, April 2022. It featured two days of basic implant training for beginners in dental implantology and two days of training in advanced principles for the existing implantologists. The 4-day course was conducted in collaboration with Dr Jaibin George of Cochin Dental Implants, Cochin India and Adin Dental Implant Solutions, South Africa. A total of 15 dental surgeons from 10 states were trained in the rare field of dental implantology, which is the modern approach to the replacement of lost teeth with newer, permanent, long living and functional artificial teeth.
ICA is a registered outfit that is dedicated to the training of specialist surgeons in Dental and craniofacial diseases. It makes use of two institutions for the training; they include QH Specialist Dental Clinics and Research Centre as well as Cleft & Facial Deformity Foundation; the 3 institutions at the same location.
According to the director of ICA, Dr Seidu Bello, commencing the training is the actualization of a lifelong dream of educating Nigerian surgeons in Nigeria, thereby giving more opportunities, saving foreign exchange and improving the pride of Nigeria as a nation and Africa at large. “Henceforth the course will take place twice a year in April and November targeting 20 dental surgeons per batch.” Dr Bello explained.
"It was a very comprehensive training that touched on all aspect of implantology. Now I have the confidence to be an implantologist; having learnt the fine details about the technique of implant placement, executing the prosthetic phase and management of complication. It is awesome.” Dr Jeffrey, a participant from Benue state stated.
The course ended on the 24th April, 2022 with a befitting course dinner at Palasso hotel and Dr George and all the participants have since departed to their respective locations
